Monday Night is Jazz Night at The Daffodil

Since its inception seven years ago the Monday jazz night at The Daffodil has featured the best of music free to diners every Monday during that period. It has been well known amongst guests that visit the restaurant that there is a great mixture of wonderful food and top class entertainment. As a former Art Deco cinema the restaurant has always been the home to music.

In the past The Daffodil has featured a mix of both nationally famous and local Jazz musicians. Jamie Cullum was featured at The Daffodil before he became an international star. Last year The Daffodil hosted Kyle Eastwood, movie star Clint Eastwood's bass playing son and his band amongst many other nights of great Jazz.

The current music booking policy is to present a wide variety of Jazz on a regular basis. We feature both male and female singers, or front line trumpet, saxophone or guitar in the style of Miles Davis, Stan Getz or Barney Kessell we try to alter the programme so that there is always something of interest to someone who likes Jazz music. Even those who are just becoming interested. Whether it is featuring songs from the great American songbook in the style of the great international Jazz singers or some blues from New Orleans or the Mississippi delta we feature it. If you like Nina Simone or Ella Fitzgerald you will find a night of music. If you like Sinatra we feature his music on a regular basis. We have also featured violin Jazz in the style of Stephane Grapelli plus a regular feature of violin gypsy Jazz. We have also featured nights with the rarely seen Jazz Hammond organ in the style of the great American player Jimmy Smith.

In January 2008 The Daffodil had an extensive re – design by TV designer and Classic FM Radio presenter Laurence Llewellyn Bowen and this included making a new staging area so that diners could see the musicians performing better. Also the addition of specially imported Italian leather chairs and tables in front of the staging and beautifully constructed Chesterfield leather VIP booth tables on the balcony so that guests have a better view of the stage whilst they drink their cocktails or eat some fantastic food.
